Issue: GPD Win 4 2022 (6800U) back buttons not working

Description

Since Bazzite switched to inputplumber in its testing branch, the back buttons on my GPD Win 4 are no longer functioning within Steam. While events are generated on button presses tested with libinput, inputplumber seems not to map these regardless of the controller profile selected via OGUI.

When running sudo libinput debug-events, the system identifies the button presses as KEY_F20 (left back button) and KEY_F21 (right back button)

Expected Behavior

Pressing the back buttons should trigger the mapped actions on the emulated controller based on the active controller profile.

Actual Behavior

• inputplumber does not appear to act on these Button events, resulting in zero input being passed to the emulated controller
• Steam does not detect any input from the back buttons. The buttons appear unresponsive within the Steam client.

Potential Cause

• GPDs remapping Software changed the codes: My device has never run Windows, so I have not used GPD’s official remapping software
• Previous mapping tool in bazzite changed the codes: It is possible that Bazzite’s previous controller mapping software had changed the send codes of the keys. Consequently, inputplumber’s default device profiles may be failing to map the buttons correctly. I cannot confirm what the expected output for inputplumber should be.

GPD devices have terrible auto-spam macro back paddles. We have a driver for the win mini that might be able to be used for other GPD devices, but we'll need some data for them
udevadm info -a /dev/hidrawX where X is the hidraw for the back paddles
also sudo hid-recorder /dev/hidrawX capture with the left and right paddle events specifically identified & the timestamp between them.

One Caveat

I'll only be adding support for the default keymap for each device. You'll need to reset it to factory settings before sending me captures. It won't be possible to know which button is which otherwise.

Thanks to @sideeffectdk for the comparison data. I was able to reset the back button mappings using the following Decky plugin: GPD-WinControl. I still can't figure out why they were changed on my end. But now my libinput events match.

@pastaq I’ve also gathered the two pieces of information regarding the auto-spam issue; at first, I was just surprised that the back buttons were made available via a mouse device. Here are the logs you requested.

Copy your device config from /usr/share/inputplumber/devices to /etc/inputplumber/devices.d, then add the above lines to your config. On the blocked evdev, change the phys path to usb-0000:73:00.3-4.2/input1

The latest update to Bazzite testing (testing-44.20260809) has your GPD Pull Request implemented, so I updated and I'm happy to report that the latest system update have now enabled the use of back buttons on my gpd win 4 6800U.
they work wonders, and are remappable in OGUI and steam input. Nice work!!

This is not only the back buttons, but also about the gyro (do we have to create a new issue for it or can it be discussed in this issue?)
On the Bazzite Discord, we were currently talking about the gyro implementation of controllers vs. handhelds. In the video I shared, there is a discrepancy with Yaw and Roll axis, but we are waiting on more users to test if the gyro axis are swapped or not.
