Something that would help get this a lot more traction IMO is to see if this could be implemented in a cross compatible way. That way, we can get contributors from qutebrowser, vimium, tridactyl, glide, etc. Depending on which ones the upstream maintainers merge. |

Glide's hint system detects clickable elements by tag names (a, button, input, etc.), ARIA roles, attributes (onclick, tabindex), and direct addEventListener listeners. However, modern SPAs (YouTube, Twitter, Reddit, etc.) extensively use event delegation which is a single listener on a parent element catches all clicks via bubbling. Individual interactive custom elements (e.g., ytd-button-renderer, yt-icon-button) have no detectable listener, role, or attribute on themselves, so they are invisible to any DOM-based detection API.
I hit this daily, by press f and see no hint on elements, however knowing that they are clickable.
Proposed Solution:
A JSON-based, community-maintained repository of per-domain hint selectors, similar in spirit to uBlock Origin's filter lists.
• Format: Per-domain files like youtube.com.json keyed by URL pattern, each containing a CSS selector string for interactive custom elements.
• Plugin: A Glide plugin fetches the relevant entries for the current domain and passes them to
glide.hints.show({ include }).• Maintenance: Community contributors submit PRs adding/updating selectors for their sites. When sites update, users can quickly submit a fix.
Effort: almost 0 | Profit 100
Glide already has
glide.hints.show({ include })which makes this straightforward to implement. A built-in plugin avoids users needing to manually craft include selectors in their config. The selector repo could live under the Glide's github repo alongside the browser. All reactions
