Windows32Exception - The parameter is incorrect

Hello

I am calling WindowsUtils.getAllWindows(false) from a service every 10 seconds and is throwing a Win32Exception, for some specific windows, I assume.

I am not sure how to even begin debugging this error or what to do about it. It keeps filling my logs and I cannot see relevant logs anymore

Hi,

I took a quick look at the code referenced in the exception. Here is the code reference.

It may make sense to dig on the windows api doc to see what would return "The parameter is incorrect" error. A wild uneducated guess is the handle is invalid. 100% a guess. I did not look at it.

Looks like line 1252 is the call to getProcessFilePath.

I would add a breakpoint to 1252 and run it with one of the windows open that produces the exception.

I get to the breakpoint you mentioned, then I see that no process can be found. If I try to find the process running from terminal, there is no process associated with the given ID (24216)

Do you know why OpenProcess is failing with ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER?

"If the specified process is the System Idle Process (0x00000000), the function fails and the last error code is ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER."

For a quick test/hack alter line 1301 to ignore both ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED and ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER?

I see.
I tested by ignoring the ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER and there is no Exception being thrown now.
Worth nothing that this issue appeared sometime in the last 1-2 weeks, and before this I have been using the application without issues and such errors. I attributed it to some application/ program that I installed in the meantime

Hi -

Might be worth looking at one of the process monitors etc to see if you can discover why it is failing now. Does it happen frequently or rarely? Could it be a timing issue with a window being closed between the multiple calls? I do not know.

The issue is present all the time. At every call of the service it keeps throwing the error
What I have noticed tho is that it's not present immediately after the computer is just turned on, it starts some time after, but i havent been able to identify the source of the issue

2. some weird rights issue
