Windows
Describe the bug
Hi,
I'm experiencing an audio issue that only occurs when launching Minecraft through the Modrinth App.
Environment
OS: Windows 11
Modrinth App: Latest version
Minecraft: 1.21.1
Fabric Loader: 0.19.3
Java: 21
Headset: Razer BlackShark V2 Pro
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080
The issue
When using the 2.4 GHz USB receiver for my headset, Minecraft launches normally but has no audio at all.
The log reports:
Create context: Invalid device
Unable to create OpenAL context
Error starting SoundSystem
What works
✅ Official Minecraft Launcher + USB receiver → Audio works normally.
✅ Official Minecraft Launcher + Bluetooth → Audio works.
✅ Modrinth App + Bluetooth → Audio works.
What does NOT work
❌ Modrinth App + BlackShark V2 Pro USB receiver → No audio.
This makes it appear to be specific to the Modrinth launch environment/OpenAL rather than Minecraft, Fabric, Java, or the headset itself.
Things I've already tried
Reinstalled the Modrinth App.
Reinstalled Java.
Reinstalled Razer drivers.
Uninstalled Razer Synapse.
Disabled audio enhancements.
Disabled exclusive mode.
Changed sample rate to 16-bit 48 kHz.
Tested an empty Fabric instance.
Verified the issue is not caused by any mods.
Tested a completely empty Fabric instance (same issue).
Attached log below
latest_redacted (1).log
Thank You!
Steps to reproduce
Connect a Razer BlackShark V2 Pro using the 2.4 GHz USB receiver.
Launch the Modrinth App.
Start Minecraft (tested on Fabric 1.21.1, including a completely empty Fabric instance).
Wait for the game to reach the main menu.
Observe that there is no audio, and the log contains:
Create context: Invalid device
Unable to create OpenAL context
Error starting SoundSystem
Switch the headset to Bluetooth and launch the same instance again.
Observe that audio works normally.
Expected behavior
Minecraft should initialize OpenAL successfully and play audio through the selected output device (the Razer BlackShark V2 Pro connected via its 2.4 GHz USB receiver), just as it does when launched through the official Minecraft Launcher.
Additional context
The issue only occurs when using the 2.4 GHz USB receiver for the Razer BlackShark V2 Pro.
Switching the headset to Bluetooth immediately resolves the issue without changing anything else.
The same headset and USB receiver work correctly in the official Minecraft Launcher, so the hardware and Windows audio configuration appear to be functioning normally.
The issue also occurs in a completely empty Fabric instance, indicating it is not caused by installed mods.
I have attached a redacted log containing the OpenAL initialization errors.
Please confirm the following.
