This is just an idea - it may have been asked in the past but I try to give another rationale to the idea - perhaps.
Right now Graal supports, sort of, javascript, python, ruby, wasm.
Would it be possible to extend this range of languages? For instance: perl, lua, php, crystal, perhaps a few more?
I assume that one problem here is lack of resources - I get it. And I am not saying these are as useful as the languages already supported. But here is what I am thinking ...
I am thinking of GraalVM a bit more than "merely" a layer to be used by a few languages as such. I kind of think of GraalVM as a universal or somewhat universal, semi-agnostic language platform. I know, I know, this is not the case as Java is used as such, but I am thinking more of the use cases here. Imagine if we could write a polyglot program - one part is implemented in python and uses python libraries; another part is written in lua and uses lua modules and yet two other parts are written in ruby and java and tap into ruby + java (and perhaps any interbridge here, be it truffleruby, jruby, you name it). And then a final .exe is created, to make distribution of code easier. Perhaps even static; perhaps even size (small size) optimized, though I think most people care about that it works correctly, and the rest, static, size , is secondary to that goal. Make it work first; then make it fast.
And perhaps then put this into wasm, without requiring the user to do much more here. Wouldn't this be great? We could kind of use the individual strength of different languages. Perhaps even extend it to other languages too, though personally I care more about the "scripting" languages, since I find it is easier to write code for them; with e. g. C++ it takes much longer to write the code correctly in the first place.
Anyway, this is just a rough idea - don't be too critical, it is really just an idea.
