T3 Code offers an editor on the Open button only when it finds that editor's command on the server's
PATHor in a standard install folder. When it finds none, the Open button offers no editor, and there is no way to tell T3 Code where the editor is.My case
I run the desktop app on Windows with the server in WSL2. My
/etc/wsl.confhasappendWindowsPath = false, so Windows programs are not on the WSLPATH. Zed and VS Code are installed on Windows. Each ships a launcher that handles WSL, atZed/bin/zedandMicrosoft VS Code/bin/code. The server does not look there, so the Open button offered no editor. My workaround for Zed was a symlink:
After a restart, Zed appeared on the Open button and opened the WSL folder correctly.
Proposal
Add a default editor setting in T3 Code's settings: choose one of the supported editors and, optionally, give the path of its command. This is the same idea as the
binaryPathsetting that each provider already has.Limits
The setting covers editors whose launcher accepts the server's paths. Under WSL that includes Zed and VS Code, because their launchers translate Linux paths themselves. A JetBrains IDE on Windows has no such launcher and needs a
\\wsl.localhost\<distro>\...path, so a command path alone does not make it work. Path translation for those editors is a separate question and is not part of this request.A fully custom command for editors outside the supported list is also not part of this request.
Optional extra
Under WSL, also check the Windows install folders for the WSL launchers of supported editors, such as
Zed/bin/zedandMicrosoft VS Code/bin/code.resolveEditorCommandinpackages/shared/src/editor.tsalready checks install folders on macOS and Windows. Under WSL it checks Linux folders only. This would make the common case work with no setup, and the setting would cover everything else.Would you welcome this? I can test on WSL.
