📢 Planning to Change Application ID (Package Name) – Need Guidance

I’m Planning to Change the Package Name

Currently, the package name of the app is:

com.sysadmin.sysadmin

I’ve now decided to change it to:

com.prathameshkhade.sysadmin

Why the Change?

I'm preparing to publish SysAdmin on both F-Droid and Google Play Store, and before doing that, I wanted to ensure the application ID is clean, structured, and future-proof.

Since I plan to develop and release more Android apps in the future, I want to follow a consistent naming convention like:

com.prathameshkhade.<app_name>

Using my name (GitHub/Developer identity) as a namespace seems like a good long-term strategy. I hope this is considered a good practice — please correct me if you feel otherwise.

Questions I’d Appreciate Help With:

1. Is it okay to use com.prathameshkhade.* as a package naming convention from your perspective?
2. Are there any special steps needed on the IzzyOnDroid side when I switch to the new Application ID?
3. Should I notify users somehow about the change, since it will be treated as a new package?
4. Could you guide me on what files exactly I need to update when changing the Application ID (in a Flutter project)?

Any guidance from your side would be super helpful to ensure a clean and smooth transition. Thank you for your time and support! 🙏

1. I do see nothing that speaks against it. Ideally, with that namespace, you'd own the prathameshkhade.com domain then, though 😉
2. we'll take care for that. Once the first app with the new packageName becomes available, it needs to be established as new app (different packageName means different app). We'd then add a notice to the original app that it has been rebranded, pointing to the new one, and after a decent overlap (about a month) remove the original app.
3. if you have the means: by all means, please do it 😄
4. Nope, unfortunately not; I'm not a Flutter dev, or Android dev, so I cannot tell, sorry.
