How about adding a Docker-based agent, like Beszel or Checkmate (Capture) are realizing it for example?

This would allow for a tad more flexible monitoring possibilites (looking at appliances like TrueNAS for example, where one can't install/persist binaries).

For TrueNAS, the built-in API integration avoids installing an agent on the appliance. Stable v6.5.0's optional Helm agent uses rcourtman/pulse:6.5.0 with /usr/local/bin/pulse-agent, rather than the unmaintained standalone agent image. That is not a qualified TrueNAS container recipe; a dedicated appliance deployment option is not scheduled.
