Hi, I'm Brian Gilbert. I work on open standards and modding tools for games, and most of my time right now goes to the Open Game Standards Alliance (OGSA), which I started in 2024.
The problem is an old one in the sim community. Every game that exposes motion telemetry invents its own format, so everyone who builds motion rigs, haptic vests, physical cockpits, or dashboards has to write and maintain a separate integration for every game. Developers have no easy path to the hardware, and hardware makers have no easy path to the games.
The OGSA Telemetry Standard (OGSA-TS) is the answer. A conforming game broadcasts telemetry over UDP multicast on the player's local network, and any number of receivers can listen at once: motion platforms, haptics, cockpit hardware, dashboards, loggers. Nothing leaves the LAN, there is no cloud service and no account, and the whole thing is MIT licensed and free for anyone to implement, from hobbyists to vendors.
The standard is validated against real sources: 16 tests across 6 classes of source material covering 100+ game outputs, with sender references mapping MSFS 2024's full SimVar set (1,354 variables) and iRacing's SDK onto the schema. A conformance corpus of golden datagrams keeps independent implementations agreeing byte for byte.
Getting it into hands is the other half of the work. There are integrations for .NET, Unity, Godot, and Unreal, each validated in-engine, plus plugins for game engine mod tools that add OGSA-TS output to existing games with zero game modification.
Sponsorship funds the ongoing work: specification design, validation, reference implementations, and the community coordination that turns a spec into something vendors actually ship. There is no legal entity behind OGSA yet, so sponsorship goes to me as primary maintainer.
OGSA is the focus right now, but not the only thing I ship in the open. I also run Konstruukt Labs, my one-person workshop: a place where I create whatever I want, without being locked into one category. Its repositories hold several open source projects, and sponsorship helps keep all of them maintained.
