Update Photos issue

When I add a few new photos to a folder and then click this button - what happens it simply deletes all photos from the layer (not the disk) but it doesn't actually add the newly copied photos.

So this is what I see when I select "update layer"

The photos are 100% there..

and if I remove the layer from QGIS, and simply add the layer from scratch, the photos are all there.

Wish it would simply do the update instead
