feat: gzipped arweave deploys and a staging channel on arweave - #2343

Conversation
- LIBRARY_PAGES.md rewritten to the agreed design: the viewer is ArDrive in library mode, pages are static manifests pinning a compressed release bundle, snapshots always compressed, light customization, publish beside Share, and the screen-by-screen UX for visitors and owners - names wait on ArNS-on-Solana support in the app; pages ship first as manifest links - library-pages/IMPLEMENTATION_PLAN.md: phases 0 to 4 in build order, the code seams each touches, tests, and the rules for credentials, spending and browser testing Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_014tuAieHPYm1nZQqu4tgNZY
phase 0 of library pages (docs/LIBRARY_PAGES.md): every release's web build goes to arweave gzipped, and staging gets an arweave copy to try library mode on before a release. - production: ar-io/ar-io-deploy pinned to the v2.1.1 commit (was the floating v1 tag), compress: gzip, source maps deleted before the arweave step (firebase has already deployed them), manifest id in the job summary - staging: new deploy-arweave job after the github pages deploy, only when that job published; uploads with @ar.io/deploy@2.1.1 `upload` (the action has no upload-only mode), gzip, --incremental plus a cached .ario-deploy so unchanged files are not paid for again - tool/warm_arweave_manifest.sh: reads every manifest path through turbo-gateway.com, ar-io.dev and ardrive.net after each deploy, and fails on a non-200 or on gzip bytes sent without content-encoding; reported, not fatal, in both workflows - docs: claude.md deployment section; the design's facts table gets the measurements; the plan's "ar.io" gateway is ar-io.dev (ar.io is the website) and the action needs arns-name, so staging uses the cli Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01U6Jfj6L2PGEKJffiGHUt4q

table so it does not require every gateway to return Content-Encoding: gzip;
verify that each .js and .wasm asset loads correctly, and assess transfer size
separately from response encoding.
- Around line 160-163: Update the font guidance in the implementation plan to

check curl’s exit status; return FAIL for any nonzero status, even when the HTTP
response is 200, before treating the downloaded body as successful.
- Around line 50-53: Update the curl request in the manifest-warming flow to add
failure handling so HTTP 404 responses are treated as retryable with the
existing retry options before the request reports failure.

CI: tests, lint and the build pass. This PR doesn't touch ar-io.dev, interim: at 01:50 UTC, 53 minutes after the upload, |
ar-io.dev charges for data past a free allowance (http 402 with an x402 offer). one evening of testing from one connection used it up, so reading all 466 files from every ci run would too. it also took 1 h 27 min to serve every path of a new turbo upload. it stays a gateway to check by hand, not one to warm. ar-io.dev, final: every path was served by 02:24 UTC, 1 h 27 min after the upload. turbo-gateway.com and ardrive.net served every path straight away. A full check right after that turned up something worse: ar-io.dev now answers HTTP 402 for So in 55d6cbe I took ar-io.dev out of the default warm-up gateways, leaving turbo-gateway.com and ardrive.net, and recorded this in the design's facts table. Warming 466 files through it from every CI run would spend the same allowance, and it isn't a gateway to send library-page visitors to. Phase 0's "done when" now names those two gateways, plus ar-io.dev once it has fetched an upload. |
pushes to dev deploy staging.ardrive.io and nothing else, as before: staging.yaml is back to dev's. the arweave upload of a staging build moves to its own workflow_dispatch workflow, staging-arweave.yaml, so the deploy wallet pays only when someone wants a staging bundle on arweave to try library mode on. upload.services.ar-io.dev is the turbo sdk's development upload service: uploads through it show on ar-io.dev at once but are not permanent, so release bundles stay on upload.ardrive.io and ar-io.dev stays out of the warm-up. If turbo-gateway.com or ardrive.net serves a JS or wasm file without
Content-Encoding,warmlabels itplain. The script then exits successfully, although the Phase 0 criterion requiresContent-Encoding: gzipon both gateways. Treatplainas a failure for those gateways. Keep it informational for gateways that may decompress assets. (github.com)🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

Phase 0 of library pages. The design is
docs/LIBRARY_PAGES.mdand the build plan isdocs/library-pages/IMPLEMENTATION_PLAN.md. Both arrive ondevwith this PR (commit 6158dbb).What changes
Production (
production.yaml). The Arweave deploy usesar-io/ar-io-deploypinned to the v2.1.1 commit, not the floating@v1tag, and uploads withcompress: gzip. Source maps are deleted after the Firebase deploy and before the Arweave one. The manifest ID goes in the job summary. The ArNS inputs are unchanged.Staging: unchanged. Pushes to
devdeploy staging.ardrive.io exactly as before and never touch Arweave. A new manual workflow, Staging build to Arweave (staging-arweave.yaml,workflow_dispatchonly), builds the chosen branch with the staging config and uploads it gzipped withnpx @ar.io/deploy@2.1.1 upload --compress gzip --incremental. It has no ArNS name; the manifest ID is in the job summary. Use it to try library mode on Arweave before a release.Warm-up (
tool/warm_arweave_manifest.sh <manifest-id>). After each deploy it reads every manifest path through turbo-gateway.com and ardrive.net. ar-io.dev is left out because it charges for data past a free allowance (see the comments). It fails on any non-200, or on a gateway sending gzip bytes withoutContent-Encoding, the one failure that breaks the app. In the workflows it's reported but not fatal.Docs. CLAUDE.md's Deployment section, the design's facts table, and two corrections to the plan (below).
Two corrections to the plan
deploy --arns-name …witharns-key/arns-namerequired, so the staging workflow calls the CLI'suploadcommand directly.https://ar.io/<id>/…is the ar.io website on GitHub Pages and returns 404 for everything. The ar.io gateway is ar-io.dev.Why v2 rather than v1.2.0
In v1 the action's
tx-idoutput was garbled on every run, and we now record it. v2 also checks before paying that the ArNS key controls the name. v2.1.1 refuses to upload any file containing a key the run holds. The v2 breaking changes don't affect this config (Arweave signer, no on-demand top-up). The action installs@ar.io/deploy@^2itself.Verification
I uploaded the CI staging build of
devhead 152041b (run 39663931790'sweb-buildartifact) with the exact command the new job runs, paid by the test wallet.a8dfadXLDbkLLbd5jmi297xfvJvns9Trn7axRXgniowcanvaskit.wasmamong them, so the app does not boot there yet. It also serves 17 JS/wasm items decompressed even when gzip is accepted, which works but is larger. No gateway sent gzip bytes without the headerBoth workflows parse and pass
actionlint1.7.7 (apart from the existingcheckout@v3age warning).Open: "boots through all three gateways" isn't met on ar-io.dev yet. Turbo reports the bundle
CONFIRMED, and today's uncompressed production upload, an hour older, is complete there, so this looks like propagation. I'm re-checking and will post the result here. What merging does
dev.DEPLOY_KEYwallet: about $1.58 the first time, then mostlymain.dart.js(about 4.2 MB, roughly $0.35).🤖 Generated with Claude Code
