histogram labels: a numpy int column holding its dtype's minimum labels the low tail from 0 #1082
fmt_num (histogram.py:23) prints a bound as 0 when abs(value) < step * 1e-9. numeric_histogram passes min through force_float (line 5), which converts numpy floats but leaves numpy ints, and abs() of a numpy int at its dtype's minimum overflows to itself: abs(np.int8(-128)) is -128, which passes the check. So a pandas int8 column holding -128, an int32 holding -231, or an int64 holding -263 (a common sentinel) labels its low tail from 0. Polars and xorq return Python ints for min and print the real value.
Probe script for this issue. Save it as probe_1082.py in a buckaroo checkout and run uv run python probe_1082.py. The output below is from main at e88ace9. Each case prints the histogram from pandas (pd), polars (pl) and xorq (xo): the bar kinds, the sum of the population bars, the sum of the categorical bars and the NA bar, then each bar as name:kind=value, and below that the histogram_bins range, min, max, nan_per and distinct_count.
