Closes #1049

Summary

The Drupal step traits now reach the site through capabilities alone, with no storage shape built in a step. RedirectTrait creates, finds and deletes redirects through the new RedirectCapabilityInterface (createRedirect(), deleteRedirect(), findRedirectIds()), and Core owns the normalisation the redirect module applies: a source loses its leading slash and an internal destination gains internal:/. ContentTrait, MediaTrait, ContentBlockTrait, TaxonomyTrait and EntityLifecycleTrait ask EntityDefinitionCapabilityInterface::bundleExists() and getBundleLabel() instead of probing config names such as node.type.<type>, and ContentTrait moves a node through its workflow with WorkflowCapabilityInterface::setModerationState(). MenuTrait passes a uri column straight through as link, and WebformTrait finds templates with a template lookup condition and probes a free machine name through the entity lookup. Textual created, changed, revision_timestamp and timestamp values are read by the new TimestampHandler (with CreatedHandler and ChangedHandler) for every entity type, which replaces the node-only entityLifecycleBeforeNodeCreate() hook and rejects a value that is neither a date string nor a number with a message naming its type. The steps also stop compensating for the backend: ModuleTrait no longer calls cacheClear() after moduleInstall() or moduleUninstall(), AuthTrait no longer calls processBatch() after deleteUser(), and DraggableviewsTrait no longer invalidates node_list, because Core::draggableviewsSetOrder() invalidates the base entity type's list tags plus config:views.view.<view> and config:views.view.<view>.<display>, and rejects a view that doesn't exist.

After #1048, 7 groups of gaps remained, and the first 2 had visible effects. Steps did the backend's work: they built the redirect module's redirect_source and redirect_redirect records and a link.uri item, wrote moderation_state through updateEntity(), treated configExists('taxonomy.vocabulary.<id>') as a bundle check, and converted textual dates in a hook that only fired for nodes. So a menu link's uri column reached LinkHandler already wrapped in an item, and a created or changed cell such as -1 hour on a term or media table was handed to storage as written. Steps also compensated for the backend: a cacheClear() after each module install or uninstall, which under @backend:drush meant a cache:rebuild after every pm:install and pm:uninstall, a processBatch() after the user delete that Core::deleteUser() already drains, and a hard-coded node_list tag, which left a draggable view over terms or media with its cached rows. The other 5 groups were about naming and records: the neutral roots of src/Backend and src/Extension named Drupal in their prose, the framework fallbacks in FieldTrait and WaitTrait had no stated rule, ContentBlockTrait declared a Drupal @throws and StateTrait named \Drupal::state(), nothing recorded which capabilities the Drush backend serves and why, and the harness and the unit fixtures still sampled CoreCapabilityInterface, a contract that only means Drupal runs in this process, to stand for any backend.

What a scenario author sees: textual created, changed, revision_timestamp and timestamp values work on every entity type with such a field, a draggable-views step against a view that doesn't exist fails with No view with the id "..." exists., and the module steps run no cache:rebuild under @backend:drush. What a contributor sees: CONTRIBUTING.md now records 3 policies in Layers (the neutral root is written for any backend and shaped by Drupal's, the web half falls back to a framework and never depends on one, and the in-process backend keeps the working directory on the Drupal root), a rule that a capability method leaves the site consistent behind it, a per-capability table of what the Drush backend serves, and "What stays the step's vocabulary" (id keys like nid and rid, base-field conditions like status, the public://, private:// and temporary:// schemes, the testmode state key and cache tag, and the harness fixtures). MIGRATION.md maps alterNodeParameters() to Removed and documents the Modules, Redirects, draggable views and timestamp behaviour. This doesn't touch Core::bootstrap(), which keeps chdir(DRUPAL_ROOT) (now with a comment on why), the signature of mailSend(), or the harness watchdog and mail fixtures, which keep CoreCapabilityInterface, and it adds no logWrite() or TestmodeCapabilityInterface.

Changes

  • Backend contracts and Core: RedirectCapabilityInterface is new in src/Backend/Drupal/Capability. EntityDefinitionCapabilityInterface gains bundleExists() and getBundleLabel(), and WorkflowCapabilityInterface gains setModerationState(). Core implements the 3 redirect methods on top of normalizeRedirectSource() and normalizeRedirectDestination(), both bundle methods on a shared getBundleInfo() (createNode() and createEntity() now use bundleExists() for their own bundle check too), setModerationState() routed through updateEntity(), the draggable views tag invalidation with its unknown-view check, and a comment on why bootstrap() keeps chdir(DRUPAL_ROOT). CoreInterface and DrupalBackendInterface extend RedirectCapabilityInterface, and DrupalBackend delegates the 6 new methods to Core. TimestampHandler, CreatedHandler and ChangedHandler are new under src/Backend/Drupal/Core/Field/, found by class name like every other handler: a numeric, empty or NULL value passes through, a date string goes through strtotime(), and any other type fails by name. The field README.md gains an H16 row and loses the 3 types from the H1 row.
  • Step traits: RedirectTrait calls RedirectCapabilityInterface, loses redirectQueryIds(), redirectNormalizeSource() and redirectNormalizeDestination(), and declares that capability as its prerequisite in place of ContentCapabilityInterface. MenuTrait passes uri through as link. ContentTrait, MediaTrait, ContentBlockTrait and TaxonomyTrait swap their configExists() and configGet() probes for bundleExists() and getBundleLabel(), and ContentTrait sets a moderation state with setModerationState(). WebformTrait gains a protected webformQueryStubs() that takes extra lookup conditions, so webformLoadTemplateMultiple() asks for template in the query, and webformMachineName() probes a free name with queryEntityIds(). EntityLifecycleTrait drops the #[BeforeNodeCreate] hook, deletes redirect stubs through deleteRedirect() and resolves a vocabulary through bundleExists(). ModuleTrait, AuthTrait and DraggableviewsTrait lose the cache clear, the batch drain and the node_list invalidation, and StateTrait and ContentBlockTrait lose their Drupal-named docblock lines.
  • Prose in the neutral roots and the web half: MailCapabilityInterface, CacheCapabilityInterface, CreationAliasCapabilityInterface, CreationAliasInterface, CreationAliasRegistryTrait, PreCreateAliasInterface, EntityStub, EntityStubInterface, BackendAwareInitializer, FastLogoutInterface, BrowserCapabilityResolver, BasicAuthenticator and DocumentElement stop naming Drupal. FieldTrait and WaitTrait name the framework markup they fall back to, ResponsiveTrait and ElementTrait extend WebContext in their examples, RestTrait drops the Drupal name from its summary, and AccessibilityTrait speaks of a backend moving the working directory.
  • Harness and unit fixtures: tests/behat/bootstrap/FeatureContextTrait.php reads the default langcode through ConfigCapabilityInterface in a new testGetDefaultLangcode() and no longer resolves CoreCapabilityInterface in the file assertion. CountedPrerequisiteTrait, SamplePrerequisiteTrait and DocumentedPrerequisitesFixture, with PrerequisiteReaderTest, PrerequisiteTest, WebRawContextTest and DocsTest, sample ContentCapabilityInterface as the capability a fixture requires.
  • Tests: new CoreRedirectMethodsKernelTest (the stored values, the lookup matching with 1 redirect per source, and the delete contract against the real redirect module), TimestampHandlerKernelTest (a textual and a numeric round trip through Core, 1 value each on a single-value field), CoreRedirectMethodsTest (the normalisation rows from the deleted RedirectTraitTest), and TimestampHandlerTest, CreatedHandlerTest and ChangedHandlerTest over a shared set of rows that includes a boolean and a nested array. Extended: CoreWorkflowMethodsKernelTest (5 setModerationState() cases), CoreEntityDefinitionMethodsKernelTest (bundleExists() and getBundleLabel()), CoreNodeMethodsKernelTest (textual created, changed and revision_timestamp on a node, and the handler's exception surfacing from createNode() for an unparseable value in each), CoreDraggableviewsMethodsKernelTest (a real demo view, the tag invalidation and the unknown-view rejection), EntityLifecycleTraitVocabularyKernelTest, DrupalBackendDelegationTest (the 6 new methods) and the redirect capability row in DrupalBackendTest, DrushBackendTest and BlackboxBackendTest. EntityLifecycleTraitTest, DraggableviewsTraitTest and ModuleTraitTest assert that no processBatch(), cacheInvalidateTags() or cacheClear() call follows, and EntityLifecycleTraitTest also drops the 7 tests of the removed hook and routes redirect teardown through deleteRedirect().
  • Documentation: CONTRIBUTING.md (the 3 Layers policies, the consistency rule, the Drush table and "What stays the step's vocabulary"), MIGRATION.md, the regenerated STEPS.md, HELPERS.md and README.md (the RestTrait, WaitTrait and StateTrait descriptions, the ResponsiveTrait and ElementTrait examples and the RedirectTrait prerequisite), and docs/architecture/README.md with architecture.puml, class-backends.puml and their SVGs (23 Drupal-only capabilities, and DrupalBackend provides 33 of 34).

Decisions

  • The stream wrapper schemes, the id keys, the base-field condition names and the testmode constants stay the step traits' vocabulary, and CONTRIBUTING.md records why a capability for them would rename nothing a scenario sees.
  • Core::bootstrap() keeps the working directory on the Drupal root, because Drupal resolves file_public_path and its other relative settings against it and a file written through public:// from the Behat process would otherwise land outside the site.
  • The harness watchdog and mail fixtures keep CoreCapabilityInterface, whose contract is Drupal's API in this process, so LogCapabilityInterface gains no logWrite() (no Drush command writes an entry) and mailSend() keeps its signature.
  • The neutral root keeps Drupal's shapes (the mail array, the item lists, the link relationships, the lookup operators, the cache bins and tags) and loses Drupal's name in its prose, and a backend for another system maps its own shapes onto them.
  • The web half keeps its framework fallbacks in their current order, with the rule written down and each comment naming the fallback.
  • draggableviewsSetOrder() rejects a view that doesn't exist, where it used to write weights under any name.
  • TimestampHandler keeps reading $record['value'] like every shipped scalar handler, because the 3 field types it serves define value as their main property and a handler for another shape overrides doExpand().
  • There's no TestmodeCapabilityInterface, because the writes already go through StateCapabilityInterface and CacheCapabilityInterface, which both backends serve.

…timestamps into backend capabilities and dropped the cache, batch and tag compensation from the step traits.
… half, and switched the harness and the unit fixtures off 'CoreCapabilityInterface' where a named capability serves them.
…d the step vocabulary decisions, and regenerated the step and architecture documentation.
…d the timestamp round trip 1 value per single-value field.

Walkthrough

The change adds Drupal backend capabilities for bundle definitions, redirects, and moderation-state updates. It routes related step operations through those capabilities, adds timestamp field handlers, updates Draggable Views validation and cache invalidation, and revises supporting documentation and tests.

Timestamp handling has two narrow input cases to correct. Neither appears to block the standard timestamp workflow, so the change is mergeable with these fixes or bounded follow-up.

Review comments at @src/Backend/Drupal/Core/Field/TimestampHandler.php:
- Line 22: Update the record lookup in the timestamp handler’s method to read
the normalized value using $this->mainProperty instead of the hard-coded value
key, preserving support for field types with a different main property.

Review comments at
@tests/phpunit/src/Kernel/Backend/Drupal/Core/CoreNodeMethodsKernelTest.php:
- Around line 88-103: Add caller-level rejection tests alongside
testCreateNodeReadsTextualTimestamps to verify that createNode throws
RuntimeException with the expected message for unparseable created and
revision_timestamp values. Keep the cases separate so each field’s behavior is
independently covered.

Review comments at
@tests/phpunit/src/Unit/Backend/Drupal/Core/Field/TimestampHandlerTest.php:
- Around line 37-48: In TimestampHandler::doExpand, reject values other than
strings, integers, and floats before casting or parsing, while preserving the
existing NULL handling; report the unsupported value’s type in the exception.
Extend the TimestampHandlerTest provider with boolean and nested-array cases
that verify rejection.
